5 ways to give your team the best start to 2022

Leaders, be sure not to miss the opportunity that the New Year brings to refresh and re-set as a team.

Here are five ways to reconnect with what’s essential, celebrate achievements, and fine-tune team fitness to be your best in 2022!

1. Start Safely. Help your teams check in after their summer break. Take time to re-orientate people to your essential health, safety, and wellbeing practices. Talk through any personal or group challenges early, so everyone gets a great start.

2. Re-align on priorities. Teams who know their shared goals are clear on the plan, and individual expectations can excel. Clarify priorities and where the team should focus effort and energy. Let people know what’s coming up, what’s changed, and if necessary, have the courage to stop doing things that can be de-prioritised.

3. Reflect on the highs (achievements) and lows (challenges) of 2021. Think about what helped your performance and what got in your way. While last year presented many challenges, it has also brought teams together to achieve incredible things in tough times. So, what are the possibilities for 2022?

4. Refresh Ways of Working. Re-visit your team commitments and expectations of each other. Restate what these mean and add, adapt as you need to for the year ahead. Have explicit behaviours and principles to foster a cohesive, collaborative, high-trust team culture. Teams get a lot more done faster in a positive, dynamic, and high-trust environment.

5. Learn and Grow. Identify the one or two things that you / your team want to develop or expand in the year to come. These things might be a new skill, a new area, something that motivates and engages you, or something that you know will make a difference to the business. To learn and grow individually and as a team is inspiring and builds capability and resilience for the future.
